Update 2: Order ZaggMate for iPad 2 Now!
Update: Congrats to Zagg for winning best of show at Macworld 2011! Also, ZaggMate is MC Hammer’s iPad case of choice! The geniuses at Zagg have done it again and released what we are excited to say is the seasons MUST HAVE iPad accessory: The ZAGGmate iPad case with keyboard. It’s not often that we get entirely blown away by an accessory for the iPad, but this one has left us shell shocked and in awe. The perfect compliment to your iPad, this is the first iPad keyboard case combo that we have seen yet that has done it right. In fact, it’s the best bluetooth keyboard we’ve seen to date as well! It’s so right and so perfect that we already wonder how we ever used our iPad without it! Check out the review below…

ZAGGmate with Keyboard

The iPad’s New Best Friend

Our first impression of the ZAGGmate was: “Where’s the rest of it?” This iPad case is unlike anything else we’ve seen on the market to date and the designers at Zagg worked hard to literally rethink what an iPad case could be. This is an iPad case that doesn’t cover the whole iPad, but rather just covers the iPad’s screen, and leaves the back of the tablet exposed. The color and design is so perfectly complimentary to the iPad, it’s almost as if the two were meant to be together from the start. Sleek, stylish, unique, and just plain super awesome, we are in love with the ZAGGmate.

ZAGGmate Features (We Think We’re In Love…)

Constructed from aircraft grade aluminum and bead-blasted to an anodized finish, the ZAGGmate perfectly matches the finish on the iPad. Also, thanks to it’s unique design, the whole case when covering your iPad only adds about a quarter of an inch to the overall thickness, so you could quickly forget that it’s even there. Your iPad is well protected in this case with military grade high-density padding to protect the screen and edges. It weighs a mere 12.8 ounces with the keyboard as well, so it adds no noticeable bulk or heaviness to your setup. On the inside of the cover only model is an innovative stand that allows a whopping 10 different angles for viewing and typing in any conceivable position. The ZAGGmate with keyboard supports both portrait and landscape orientations.

Great Layout And Feel

The keyboard is easily the best bluetooth keyboard we’ve seen yet apart from Apple’s own much more bulky version. The layout and feel of the keys are eons better than anything we’ve tested yet. Highly responsive, snappy keys make typing on this keyboard easy and fast. The keyboard even has unique function keys on it that work with the iPad. It’s got a huge 510 mAH rechargeable battery inside that will last for several weeks without needing a recharge vie the included microUSB cable. There’s even four rubber feet included in the package if you want to attach them to the bottom of your case to prevent slippage while typing.

Stand, Hard Cover, and Keyboard

ZAGGmate Is The #1 iPad Accessory In 2010 (you heard it here first!)

The ZAGGmate is easily the thinnest hard shell protection for the iPad we’ve seen yet. It’s also the most stylish and attractive looking one as well. We have to wonder why somebody else didn’t think to do an anodized aluminum case like this before. The keyboard inside the ZAGGmate is just superb and the perfect companion to the iPad. And for the price, it beats out just about every single one if its (inferior) competitors on the market, so we are very confident in saying: This is THE best iPad accessory we have seen in 2010, and it’s sure to be hugely in demand this season. The biggest challenge we predict Zagg will have is keeping this baby in stock.

I think it looks good, I’ve been trying to find a hard case, that is easy to use and also have a keyboard.
How does the Keyboard get its power? does it come from the IPAD battery? If so; how fast will it drain the battery

Is typing awkward with the lip around the keyboard? I realize it needs the lip to secure the IPAD, I’m just wondering if it’s awkward typing in a box…

Lastly you should get rid of your “like bot”, or reconfigure it so IF they press dislike they should have to put a reason WHY, because from what I see I think it looks good, but just have the questions above to find out more…
    thanks

    Dave

I think your abit off on your prediction… as indicated on your like/dislike feedback….
The problems are several…If I opt for the keyless case, what does that llittle plastic stand prop. rub up against when closed shut… more than likely, the screen… even if I have a screen protector on, I do not want a constant rubbing of a hard plastic stand piece against my screen protector… it will scratch and or rub a mark into the protector with I will ultimately have to get used to .. no thanks…
The key board version…If I wanted a keyboard tag along, I would carry a simple laptop… period. what about the rid lift or lip on the space bar side of the keyboard.. do you think that will get old real soon with your palm constantly rubbing against it? I do. There’s something just not ergonomic about it… and it takes away from what the ipad is all about… keyless portable style with consuming media capabilities, not production and/or output capabilities….

Beautiful, forward-thinking design! I will let you know more as soon as I get mine (it’s been shipped!).

Even though the virtual keyboard on an iPad is quite novel, it is frustrating for those who are used to resting fingers on a keyboard, to have to hover over the keys on a screen. A perfect solution for longer messages and memos.

  4. Steaphan says:

Fabulous design. Can’t wait for mine(shipped Dec. 21). The keyboard in the hard shell case, genius! Long battery life…even better.

Kevin, a couple of things to consider before you comment. Do you really think a company like Zagg would overlook the support stand not folding cleanly away from the screen? Secondly, look at the pictures(you clearly didn’t see) highlighting the lowered lip on the bottom of the keyboard. Where are your hands when you type, in front of the keys or off to the side? Thirdly, if you’re going to make fun of keyboard functionality, learn how to use one. Finally, read the specs on the product being reviewed, or better yet…stick with your big bulky cumbersome laptop.

  5. Rodrigo says:

Oh my God, that remainds me, that remainds me….. of a lapto or a notebook…..

I can’t believe it, so, what’s the point to buy an Ipad if you are gonna buy this and use it like a regular notebook or a laptop… isn’t that stupid?????

Of course it’s beautiful, of course is a great design, of course it’s the greates accesory, since the ipad doesn’t have a keyboard, but…. not having a keyboard and have to use the screen, is the main characteristic of the ipad?????

It’s probably the best thing for the ipad, but for me, it’s stupid to have this and use it like your ipad were a notebook.

  6. Julia says:

The keyboard case is perfect for those of us who want to leave the lappy at home but type more than 80 wpm.
You’re worried that it’s not ergonomic? Neither is the virtual keyboard.
If you think it’s stupid, don’t buy it. Quit being a troll.
A screen protector is so your SCREEN doesn’t get scratched. You can remove a screen protector and replace it for a reason.

  7. Rocky Farnsworth says:

Well I got to ‘play’ with one the other day at BestBuy, (they had one on display), and I had no problems typing on it. As far as protecting the iPad, well let’s just say that ZAGG has done it again! Also, as far as the little prop piece rubbing the screen that someone was worried about, it doesn’t come in contact with the screen when not in use, it ‘stows away’, so no worries there. The only problem I can find with it is the price, as I cannot afford one yet since I blasted all my money on the iPad itself!! But as soon as I’ve recooped my finances, I will be getting one, EVEN THOUGH I already have a soft-case for my iPad, this will be adding EXTRA protection, and there’s nothing wrong with that….

  8. Steve says:

I can’t say enough good things about this case… I’m so glad I got it! It turns the iPad into everything I need, and it looks super cool! I have big hands, so typing took a little getting used to, but now that I have it down I type like a breeze. This has let me totally leave my laptop behind now when I travel.

  9. Kris says:

Love the zaggmate w/ keyboard. Getting used to the lip at the front, but think it will be ok in a couple of days.

Wondering if anyone has a skin to protect the keyboard from crumbs and “stuff”.

  10. RB says:

I purchased Zaggmate w/Kyboard at the same time I got my IPad. I can’t say I am all as Gaga as the reviewer, but it’s not bad. I picked it up to allow me to do some typing during my commute on light rail and buses. and I have found it not as convenient at I’d like. When propped for keyboard use, it’s not as secure as I need for public transportation.

Also, when secured in the case for protection, the Ipad is held in place by a rubber foam edging. It’s has been durable, but the adhesive that holds the edging in the case has already come loose on one of the corners. This is easy enough to fix, but since I have been using it for a month now, I was surprised it has already shown this wear. I do move from location to location throughout my day and so it does go in and out of the case a lot. I like it and continue to be happy with it. But I would have to knock of one star based on these two experiences.

Will I be able to use Zaggmate keyboard that I use for my ipad 1 on the new ipad 2?

  12. Chris S says:

    Friendly update!
Logitech/Zagg just released an updated version of this accessory for iPad 2. The keyboard is much nicer and the buttons are spaced out in a more attractive way. They’re selling it under the same name for the same price. You can still see on their website that they feature some pictures that use the old version, while the most showy pictures feature the new version. Overall the new version seems to be much nicer. I’m going to try to return my old one and get the new one – I still have the 30 day return going for me!

  13. admin says:

Thanks for the update Chris! It is called the ZaggFolio and we have in fact already reviewed it here:
