Otterbox has just released their new Defender case for the iPad 2 and it’s one ultra-rugged piece of iPad protection equipment! It will protect your iPad 2 like a tank, but somehow is less bulky than the Defender for the original iPad! If your job regularly takes you into settings that are less than ideal for expensive and sensitive electronic devices, or if you happen to be related to Survivor Man, Bear Grylls, or Mike Rowe then you will want to get your callused hands one this baby fast.

Ultimate iPad 2 ProtectionEverybody loved the original Otterbox Defender Case. You can check the comments on our review for Defender case for the original iPad and find people singing its praises from G.I.’s in multiple branches of the military to Dads with manly sounding names like Gordon, Jerome, and Dale. Let us assure you, if you liked the original, you’re gonna love the new one for iPad 2!
Utilizing multi-layer technology that is designed to withstand just about anything you can throw at it, the Ottebox Defender defines iPad 2 protection. From the rigged polycarbonate shell with a foam interior to protect the back of the iPad from scratching to the durable shock absorbing silicone outer skin, to the clip-on touch screen cover, there is no part of your tablet that is left unprotected. Additionally, with every Defender you get free self adhering screen protector included!
Designed with some of their some of Otterbox’s latest innovations for rugged protection, the new iPad 2 Defender case is 20% lighter, way less bulky, and still every bit as protective as before. Along with the new inner coring that reduces weight comes a series of foam pads that protect the back of the iPad and keep it from coming into contact with the rigid polycarbonate. This helps prevent scratches and wear on the tablet itself from the case. Additionally, the new Defender hard touch screen shield can be removed and turned into a stand with two viewing angles! These are some pretty cool new features that just continue to show why Otterbox is the leader in iPad protection innovation. Just pop this baby out on a construction site, prop it up, and listen to the other guys ooh and ahh.
Our only complaint with this case is again it’s biggest strength. This case is built like a tank, it’s tough, it’s rugged, and it’s gonna protect like an M-4 Sherman. However, it’s a BEAST to get your iPad installed. Set aside a good 15 minutes to disassemble and reassemble this monster. The steps for assembly and disassembly are laid out clearly in the instructions, so there’s never any question of what to do next, but be prepared to work for it. On the other hand, this is rather comforting because you know that you are wrapping your precious device in so many layers of protection that nothing is ever going to harm it.
For ultimate tank-like iPad 2 protection that is unparalleled in the market, then you simply must buy the OtterBox Defender for iPad 2. Act now and get free self adhering screen protector free of charge!
The Otter Box I purchase lives up to the review. Combined with the Zagg Invisible Shield my iPad is truly protected. The case, while time consuming to assemble is not difficult. The picture directions are understandable but need to be printed a bit bigger. The directions are not conducive for those with bi-focals. I’m not sure what the flap by the dock connector is for. The Defender’s hard touch screen shield provides two excellent viewing angles in the horizontal. I wish there were an ability to use the stand with the iPad in the vertical, though. (Maybe I haven’t figured it out yet.) Additionally, when the screen shield is attached over the screen itself the lowered lip comes in contact with the mechanism used to depress the home key. When carrying the iPad in this configuration the home key has the tendency to be depressed and power on the unit. While it’s not a big deal when completely powered off, it is a bit disconcerting if not completely powered down. I really like the ruggedness of the Otter Box. Overall the Otter Box provides outstanding protection while not interfering with the overall operation of the iPad. It’s not bulky for it’s protection, either. I’d give it 4.5 stars out of 5.
